New Shoes!

My training schedule is a little light on Tuesdays, besides for the possible TRX with Jami. My muscles aren't seizing up after my 2 Monday spins, so I hit the gym for an hour and a half of cardio in the morning, towards the later of which Jami accosts me on the treadmill and tells me I am going to hurt myself with my current shoes.

"My new ones are arriving today Jami" I reply in a pant, "So I will be breaking them in while I am away in Boston for work,"

"What are the new ones"
she asks suspiciously. After I blogged about my inner 10 year old and her Keds obsession Jami is always monitoring my footwear with high amounts of disapproval.

"North Face", I reply, forgetting about Jami's annoyance with my love of all things North Face (they freaking last forever!). "But before you freak out just calm down, they are running shoes." I say this last part with a smile, as I am pleased to finally have appropriate footwear in JL's eyes.

"Trail running is different than indoor running Melissa" she replies in a huff, punctuated with an eye roll. "You are on track to hurt yourself big time if you don't stop this. Has the skin grown back on the bottom of your feet yet?"

"Well I can't return them, they were on sale!" I gasp, just short of losing my footing again on the spinning conveyor belt, "But I will look for some more I guess. And yes, it did finally,"

"Please find more"
Jami regards me suspiciously for a moment, before checking her watch and realizing she needs to head out. I gleefully punch the giant red STOP button and call it quits.
The sky is bluebird and it is in the high 40's. I'm in an awesome mood today. Yes, yes, I am the same girl who texted "I hate this island" on just Friday to a friend, but it is inching closer and closer to 50 and this alone puts a smile on my face. I have visions of sitting at the Galley in the sand, drinking flute after flute of rose Champagne in the near future.

The next 3 days will be tough, as I am off-island and away from my support system. Jami is like an AA sponsor, and trying to merge me in with functional society is rather dangerous at times. Carbs, chocolate et al tend to get me in trouble...I have a little bit of a "What happens off-island stays off-island" theory, so if I fail to hunt and gather my meals then it's okay right? And who really uses those Fitness Centers at hotels? I guess I will find out Thursday morning when I shake off what is bound to be a mother of a hangover and hit the lap pool, after a night out in Boston with a bunch of winos.

Update @ 3:55pm: new shoes just arrived via UPS and am all laced up and heading to gym to break in on elliptical.
